Kingstone History
Kingstone Insurance Company traces its roots back to 1886 when it was formed as the Co-Operative Fire Insurance Company in Catskill, New York. In 1976 the company’s name was changed to Commercial Mutual Insurance Company. In 1998 the company moved to its corporate headquarters in historic Kingston, New York.
In 2009, the company demutualized and was renamed Kingstone Insurance Company, now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kingstone Companies, Inc. Kingstone Companies is publicly traded on NASDAQ under ticker symbol "KINS".
The company has steadily grown its surplus organically and through additional investments made by Kingstone Companies. Kingstone is now ranked as one of the 20 largest writers of New York Homeowners insurance,
Originally a New York-only company, Kingstone is now licensed in eight states and is actively writing in five. The company has always written business exclusively through licensed agents and brokers. Kingstone prides itself on superior service and in providing a consistently strong market presence.
